Missionary Trip to Belize 2011Dates Depart USA late Friday night, Jan. 14, 2011Return USA on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011We invite you to join us for the 11th Annual missionary trip to Dangriga, Belize.
The medical and construction teams will serve the same week in Dangriga, about 110 miles South of Belize City and located on the Caribbean Sea.Belize, formerly known at British Honduras, is a developing country that has a beautiful countryside and many water activities in the Caribbean. The official language is English. The currency is fixed at $2 Belize versus $1 US dollar. Please log on to www.travelbelize.org for more information.The weather in Belize in January is between the upper 70s-low 80’s to lower 60s. It is a good time to get out of the Northwest cold winter.Medical TeamProvide daily clinics & surgeries Sunday to Friday at the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga and at local villages. Specialists are especially needed in dentistry, orthopedic, ENT, urology, gynecology, radiology, dermatology, podiatry, neurology, and pediatrics.Other specialty and general/internal physicians are also invited.Diabetes and hypertension are two major problems among the entire population.The hospital has two surgery operating rooms and 70 inpatient bds. The Belizean gov’t instituted a national health insurance program @ 2007. There are now many outpatient primary care outpatient clinics in a building adjacent to the hospital. We have use of a few of these rooms on a sporadic basis.RNs will be teamed with doctors for clinic assistance, to supplement the local nurses on inpatient units and for Triage. Non-medical help, including translators, are needed for patient assistance and various other duties. We will continue the team approach- for every physician: at least one nurse and one non-medical helper (preferably with interpreter skills).For information on the Belize Health system, go to: www.health.gov.bzConstruction TeamThe construction team will be also be located in Dangriga, and will continue the construction on a new St. Matthews Anglican Church/school building in Pomona (12 miles away). Skilled and unskilled people are needed. Local professionals will supervise the work.Dates for medical and construction teams are:· Leave Sea-Tac, 11:45 pm Friday, Jan 14, 2011 via Continental Airlines· Pick up our rented vehicles at Belize Airport and drive to Dangriga.· Stay at hotels in Dangriga. Every room has shower, toilet, and sink. Almost all rooms have air conditioning.· four catered buffet dinner meals (included in $300 fee)· lunch provided by hospital - Monday-Friday (included in $300 fee)· Medical Specialty clinics will be conducted at:Southern Regional Hospital, DangrigaSunday, Jan. 16 to Friday, Jan.21· Medical teams will be sent out daily to local villagesWe will conduct health screening of children at two local Anglican schools.· Monday-Friday, construction team will continue construction of a new St. Matthew’s Anglican Church/school building in Pomona (12 miles from Dangriga).· Saturday, Jan. 22- off/play/recreation day· Sunday, Jan. 23- return to USATypicals costs per personAirfare: $600-750Ground activities: $300 (*see below)Lodging: $12-40 per nightMeals: $20-30 per day depending on appetiteLeisure activities: varies depending on type*$300 Includes: Due by Dec. 15, 2010.· rental of ground transportation (vehicles and gas)· four catered dinners· bottled water· lunch -Monday thru FridayAll of your expenses can be tax deductible except meals and leisure activities.
