Adult EducationAdult education is offered seasonally and occasionally also through special programs, focusing on spiritual inquiry and growth. Topics may range from Scripture or book study to theology (understanding how our life stories are part of the larger story of God and the Church), to congregational development, to current events and ministry out in the world. We usually meet on Sunday mornings between services (around 9 AM) or on weekday evenings. Occasional one-day retreats may be offered. Child care can be arranged on an as-needed basis. Bible StudyStudy and discussion of books of the Bible, the Book of Common Prayer, and other books on occasion. We currently we have a Thursday morning group that meets from 10:30 to 11:30 AM in the Cambridge Court Cabana behind the church. Cursillo Reunion Groups
Men's group meets Thursdays at 10:15 AM. Contact: Jim Teays (206-246-2452) Inquirers ClassThe Inquirers class is an orientation to the Episcopal Church and the Church of the Resurrection. It is normally aimed at newcomers, but is open to anyone. This class introduces what Episcopalians believe, the Book of Common Prayer, and history of the church (both national and local). Offered occasionally. Baptism PreparationBaptism is the sacramental rite that marks one's entrance into life in Christian community as a beloved member of God's family. Through this ancient ritual, practiced throughout the Christian church, we understand ourselves to be forgiven for our sin and entering into new life through Jesus Christ. We commit ourselves (or, in the case of very young children, parents and godparents make the commitment on their behalf) to a life shaped by prayer and study, repentance of our wrong-doing, sharing the Good News of the Gospel with others, serving Christ in the world, and working for peace and justice for everyone. Since this is not a commitment to be made lightly, we invite anyone seeking to be baptized to spend time in preparation with the priest or other leader and any others preparing to take this step of Christian initiation. Baptism is available for both adults and children. In the Episcopal Church, we understand this to be a step taken with the community of believers gathered around. Baptism is offered on several key occasions throughout the church year - in January (as we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus), at the Easter Vigil service, at Pentecost (late spring), and on All Saints Sunday (early November). Please note that all baptized Christians, no matter what denomination originally baptized in, are welcome to receive Holy Communion (Eucharist) in the Episcopal Church. Confirmation ClassThe Confirmation class is for those who wish to review their faith and prepare to reconfirm their Christian commitment through the sacrament of Confirmation. This class is aimed at youth who have grown up in the church, or adults who have been part of the church for a while and wish to reconfirm their commitment. Offered on an "as needed" basis. Marriage PreparationMarriage preparation focuses on the conversation between a couple and the priest to provide preliminary counseling and to share the Episcopal Church's understanding of the sacrament of marriage, as well as to plan the wedding ceremony. Premarital counseling is always part of this preparation and is usually conducted across several sessions. If you are planning to be married or have questions related to this process, please contact our priest as early as possible.
