For the sixth year in a row, Father Peter Kalunian led a missionary trip to Belize.

We were greeted at the Belize City International airport by The Rt. Rev. Philip Wright, Bishop of Belize and Mrs. Carol Babb, Director of the Anglican Schools. The medical team, traveled to Dangriga, (110 miles South of Belize City and on the Caribbean) provided free medical services at Southern Regional Hospital to residents. Members of the team also conducted diabetic and self-breast examination clinics. The Bellevue Rotary Club provided $1,000 worth of medicine. The medical team conducted many surgeries and outpatient examinations. The medical team ate at local restaurants for breakfast and dinner and lunch was provided at the hospital (rice, beans & chicken every day).

All team members enjoyed at least one pleasure day - some visited Mayan ruins, others went snorkeling at a off-shore island caye (pronounced key) and others went tubing down a river. The weather was cool - in the 70's and cloudy. This was very pleasant for us, but cold for the local residents. The team is already making plans for a return trip next year.

The construction team repaired windows at Christ the King Anglican School elementary school in Dangriga. The school is housed right on the Caribbean Sea and the metal seaside windows were corroded shut. We replaced the windows with wooden shutter windows. The students now have a breeze, light and a beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea. St. James, Pullman ECW, contributed $500 for building materials.

We received as much (if not more) from the local residents than they received from us. Belizeans are very friendly and appreciative people. “Don't worry-be happy” rings a familiar chord and for us type-A Americans. It is refreshing to be able to slow a little and appreciate each other and our planet Earth.

“When you did to the least of these, you have also done it to me.”
